Capital Criterium - July 11, 2010
By spokesman | July 1, 2010

While I was out riding this past Sunday, I stopped by CycleLife in Georgetown for a drink and ran in to Mark Sommers, the race director for the Capital Criterium. He was actively working on publicity for the upcoming race which will be held on Sunday July 11. It had been a regular race in years past but was skipped last year because the main sponsor (ING Bank) was having some financial troubles. However the race is back this year with new sponsorship.
The race course is in down town Washington D.C. It is a great location for a race and if you are a photographer, the views down Pennsylvania Ave with the U.S. Capitol Building in the background are fantastic photo opportunities. The race program will feature both amateur and pro races, kids races and the GiroDC 2012 Celebrity Charity Race. I’m not sure if Mayor Fenty will be riding in the Celebrity Charity Race. If he does ride, he will easily be the favorite to win. This is the closest bicycle race to President Obama’s house, but if he wants to be competitive, he’ll need to upgrade from his hybrid. Come out and show your support. Mark is working to get the Giro D’Italia to start in Washington DC in 2012. A good showing for this race can only help our chances to get the Giro in a few years. Complete information is at the Capital Criterium website.
