Colorado Rocky Mountain Bike Tour

The Colorado Rocky Mountain Bike Tour is a challenging tour that covers some beautiful terrain. The tour takes place in August and is limited to 500 riders. It is a fully supported tour. Riders have a choice of staying at hotels and Bed & Breakfasts or camping. You can book your own accommodations or use Alpine Cycle Connection to help with the reservations. Regardless of your accommodations, you can arrange for luggage transport with the tour operator. There is also SAG support, which you may need for this tough route.
A highlight of the route this year is Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park which is shown in the picture above. It is the highest continuous paved road in the United States with more than 8 miles of the road above 11,000 feet. It is closed for several months of the year due to snow. Snow won’t be an issue in August, but the altitude may be a concern. The peak altitude of the road is 12,183 feet where the road crosses the continental divide. On the positive side, if the high altitude robs of your energy and you need to stop, there are many great photo opportunities along the way. At that altitude, you are far above the tree line, so the view is unobstructed on a clear day. I have visited Rocky Mountain National Park but have never been there when Trail Ridge Road was open. Unfortunately, my schedule was dictated by business trips so I couldn’t choose the time of the year to go. My previous post was on 19 of the most difficult roads in the world. That post included many roads that you couldn’t ride on a bicycle. Trail Ridge Road is one of the most challenging and beautiful roads that a bicyclist can ride. This tour is a unique opportunity to ride the road as part of a supported tour.
