Craigslist, Erotic Ads and Bicycles

By spokesman | May 14, 2009

Kathy on bicycle

Recently Craigslist has been under pressure to remove their erotic services ads after a man answered one of the ads and killed a prostitute (oops - I mean erotic service provider).  Craigslist had said that they had that ad category so that those ads would not be listed in other sections on their site.  However based on legal pressure and public opinion, Craigslist announced on their blog that they will eliminate the category in a week.

I have regularly read the bicycle ads on Craigslist and have written about trading bicycles through Craigslist.  However given the recent decision by Craigslist, I am concerned that the erotic advertisers may move to the bicycle section.   Why the bicycle section and not other areas such as furniture, real estate or computer services?  Bicycling has vocabulary that the pimps can use to hide what they are really advertising and appear as legitimate ads.  Expect to see these bicycle ads soon.

I think I spotted one too under the motorcycles…Vintage speedster, extra wide seat , dual headlights have dropped, need adjusting, a little rusty but rides well. Needs a tune up to reduce black discharge from tailpipe.

I have yet to see the biker in the picture, but maybe on my next tour.

I haven’t seen her either, but if there more like her on the road, maybe bicyclists would be treated better.
