Olympians Need To Take A Deep Breath
By spokesman | September 7, 2008

Four American cyclists on the Olympic team arrived in Beijing last month wearing filter masks to avoid some of the air pollution. The athletes later apologized for wearing the masks, under pressure from the USOC. However, they are now requesting an apology from the USOC. They claim that the incident - being forced to apologize in Beijing was “emotionally devastating” and adversely affected their performance. None of the athletes won medals. Ironically, the masks were actually provided by the USOC.
My perspective on the incident - THEY’RE SORE LOSERS. All athletes are under extreme pressure. Most endure a lifetime of training and sacrifice and then only have one chance to be their best. Winning takes a combination of skill, luck and performing under pressure. I am sorry that you didn’t achieve your Olympic dream, but having lawyers request apologies won’t get you a gold medal or your picture on a Wheaties box. Everyone in Beijing had to breathe the same polluted air.
Switching gears to an athlete that I truly respect and admire; Levi Leipheimer took the lead in the Vuelta today. (see my previous post on Levi)
