WomanTours

By spokesman | April 26, 2009

WomanTours is a unique bicycle touring company.  As far as I know (and according to the company’s website), it is the only bicycle tour company that provides tours exclusively for women.

The company specializes in van supported inn-to-inn tours for woman only.  The tours cover a wide range of geographical areas primarily in the continental United States, although they had added new tours in Argentina and Alaska for this season.  Most of thier tours range from 4 to 12 days however they also offer several much longer tours including cross country tours.  This is another unique feature of the company.

Many of their customers are solo travelers and the company rotates roommates throughout the tour (unless requested otherwise).  This arrangement results in a high degree of comradery among the touring group.

About half of their customers bring their own bikes, however the company can rent you a bike if you need one. The company rents woman specific bicycles from Terry.  They offer both hybrid bikes with straight handlebars and road bikes with drop style handlebars.

The cross country tours utilize the routes (the Northern Tier or Southern Tier) mapped out by Adventure Cycling.  The longest of these tours (The Southern Tier) goes from San Diego, CA to St Augustine, FL in 58 days.  The company provides van support on this tour, so you don’t have to carry your luggage and you stay in an inn every night - there is no camping.  Customers on these tours are required to bring their own bicycle.

    Women-only tours? How sexist.
